A bit of Gresham's History brought back to life

What is the Red Comet? The Red Comet was a fire extinguisher that was used like a sprinkler systems of today. The Red Comet bulb hung from the rafters in attics and basements and when the metal holding it up got hot it melted like the wax in today's sprinkler systems. But, instead of spraying water it dropped the bulb and it shattered and the liquid extinguished the fire.

This is the earliest version of the Red Comet I have found anywhere. I've found pictures of them on line starting in the 20's but, this looks older and the ones in the 20's where

white.

There is also a white one as well as the one pictured here that will be yours for the keeping if you should purchase the house.
